Maran ei top

Thanks to the wonderful weather presenter Ulrike Finck from RBB television and her film crew!

We have been breeding Marans chickens very successfully in the black-copper color variety since 2007. Our breeding stock comes directly from the French selection center in Normandy, France. There, we personally collected the best hatching eggs from elite flocks. Anyone interested in chicken breeds will inevitably encounter the Marans!

Sample description Marans chicken
Origin:

Bred around the turn of the 19th/20th century in southwestern France around the city of Marans and its region.

Overall impression:

A beautifully robust, weather-resistant, and agile chicken with a full, broad body and well-feathered legs and toes. A great choice for anyone looking for a suitable chicken breed with that certain something extra!

Breed characteristics of the Marans rooster:

A large, spirited, strong-willed, yet friendly representative of the breed is expected, with broad shoulders, a well-developed build (back length and mass), and a round chest. Tight-fitting plumage, with broad wing and tail feathers preferred. A free, medium-high stance with good leg and outer toe covering. Leg color flesh-colored. Strong, short beak, preferably horn-colored. Eyes orange-red.

Deeply set, broadly mounted, preferably slightly coarse-pearled single comb with 4-6 points, without the well-rounded comb vane lying flat. Tail carried medium-high with very good sickle-like markings. Strong copper color with slight copper tinges in the breast feathers.

Live weight: 3.5kg - 4.0kg

Breed characteristics of the Marans hen:
Back not too short and almost horizontal. Tail feathers not too long, set wide apart. Abdomen well developed. Single comb upright, may also be tilted to the side at the back, without obscuring the eye. Leg color may be slightly darker.

Live weight 2.4kg- 3.0kg

Egg production in the first year: 180 eggs, minimum hatching egg weight: 65g, (old hens sometimes lay over 85g) Shell color: extra dark reddish-brown, low broodiness.
